History of the Ullapool Guitar Festival

The Festival started in 2000 when the Ullapool Tourism and business association was conceived principally because of the foot and mouth epidemic and the Festival was seen as one way of attracting tourists to the area. We decided to have it October at a time then considered to be the end of the tourist season so basically it helps the community by pushing the season by at least another week. A lot of people who come for the festival then stay on for the rest of the following week.

The Ullapool Guitar Festival is a community run not for profit, all the money that is made is ploughed back into the next festival so that we can try and produce the best festival we can each year. We have no major sponsor but in recent years we have had donations of instruments from some top class luthiers and these have been auctioned to help with funding.
